Beginning (or Refresher!) Carving with Mary May


Mary May begin carving 640This beginner carving class will help get you started in the wonderful world of woodcarving. Well known professional woodcarver, Mary May, will guide you through the problems and mysteries that you may encounter when beginning to learn to carve wood. We will cover tool safety, sharpening, working in the correct grain direction, and many basic and important carving techniques. We will work through several complete carving projects, including a floral design and scallop shell in shallow relief. It's going to be a lot of fun, so don't miss out! Both beginner and experienced carvers are welcome, but we will mainly be focusing on the woodcarving basics. Tools required are listed below. The school does have some of the tools but most people find that trying to share them around during class is frustrating and it is better to have your Yes– this class is meeting Thursday & Friday!
