Make a Shaker Candle Stand Table with Bob Van Dyke

This traditional Shaker style table features a round top, a turned central column and gracefully shaped legs. It is based on the candle stand tables on display at the Hancock Shaker village. This project emphasizes extensive handwork using handplanes, chisels and scrapers. The project features sliding dovetails, tapered legs, carefully grain matching the top and flattening the top by hand. Turning the central spindle is not part of the class as many students are not skilled in woodturning and the spindles all have to be exactly the same in order for the sliding dovetails to work. Tuition: $295.00, plus materials.
