Furniture Restoration Techniques with Teri Masaschi
Learning how to restore antiques and fine furniture can open up the opportunity to create fine pieces for your home or to resell. This class will emphasize identifying pieces that should be restored or left in original condition, proper finish removal or cleaning, repairing veneer problems, common repairs such as expansion cracks, replacing or splicing in missing parts and carvings, re-gluing, coloring in repairs, the joy of hide glue, and the use of modern materials such as epoxies. Each student should begin well before the class, scouring the basement or flea markets to find a project that can be accomplished in one week and will be a good learning piece for the skill that is of most interest. Each project must be discussed with the instructor well before the actual class. Limit of 2 projects for each student. Painted pieces in need of stripping are usually not good for this class. Previous classes in finishing or a good base of finishing experience strongly recommended. Tuition: $545.00 (plus materials)
