Beginning Engraving on your Woodworking Tools with Catharine Kennedy
In this weekend class, you will be introduced to metal engraving with both a hammer and chisel, and air-powered assisted gravers. We will show how to sharpen gravers using templates and fixtures. We will discuss traditional design work (scrolls and leaves) and put it into practice. Transfer of the designs to metal will also be investigated. There will be lots of practice plates available, in both copper and steel, with the end project being either a machinist's square or your own plane (which you would bring
with you). Regardless of how far you get, you will leave with a much better understanding of what engraving is and the work involved! It's all fun!
Catharine started woodworking in the fourth grade and has been working at it ever since .
