The Fundamentals of Carving for Furniture with Mary May

floral carving 2 webLearn how to decorate your furniture with relief carving from professional woodcarver, Mary May. She will start with the basics by explaining the process of getting tools razor sharp. Then she will explain the proper ways of safely holding gouges, clamping wood, transferring designs to wood, and anything you need to know in order to get started in this wonderful art.  Mary will explain & demonstrate the technique of giving the appearance of overlapping elements, tricks in how to make carvings appear deeper than they actually are, and how to think through the entire carving process - from design to finished carving. We will be working on three different projects over the course of this jam packed weekend. Students will begin a floral decoration, a classic shell, and a linenfold panel- all in shallow relief. You should have gained the skills during the class which will allow you to finish your practice projects at home.  Step into Mary's head (it's not that scary) and join with her in this carving adventure! Sign up today. Mary is one of this country’s premier woodcarvers & instructors.

Hi Bob,
Just a quick note to thank you and Will for an excellent experience in the Chapin Class.  I had to be home early and was not able to properly thank  you for the additional time on Sunday.  I have learned a lot in this class as I have in all of your programs.  I’ll see you in the fall.
