Making Complex Bandings  with Steve Latta

advanced banding webBandings make furniture alive with contrast and subtle elegance. This hands-on class will focus on how these complex bandings are made and then set into furniture components such as legs, aprons and tops. In this class we will start with a New Hampshire zig-zag motif and then make some variations on the basic sawtooth and arrow bandings.  We’ll move into half diamonds and full diamonds including 90, 45 and 30 degree variations.  We’ll look at ribbon bandings and talk about considerations when making a couple of strips versus the precision of a more production run.   As always, safety and the successful milling of small parts will be covered in depth. This unique class will allow you to appreciate some of the ingenious ways in which this decoration can be fabricated which will allow you to add another design dimension to your work, be it traditional or contemporary. During the course of the weekend, attendees will combine efforts to generate some of these infamous forms and take a sampling home with them.

Steve Latta is one of this country’s leading authorities on Federal furniture, Inlays and decorative bandings. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from one of the best! Tuition $275 plus materials
