Carving for Furniture Makers - The "other" Chippendale leg - with Will Neptune

marlborough_leg.jpgMost people think "ball & claw" when they think of a Chippendale style furniture leg- but the Marlborough leg with its straight lines and more architectural effect is the complement to the naturalistic cabriole with ball and claw foot and is just as important to the style. In this class each student will work on a mock up of a leg and rail detail that would appear on a table.  Demonstrations will show how to adapt basic table construction to this style.  We will use shop made "scratch stocks" to profile the leg surfaces, and then learn the carved embellishments that can be used with this leg. The class will cover the pierced C-scroll bracket along with several carved moldings including rope, berry and sausage, sunken pea and gadrooning.  Like other classes in this series, you will learn some specific solutions to a set of problems, and more importantly, how to apply these techniques to other  furniture-making situations as well. Tuition $195.00 (plus materials)
